Sports Illustrated Premium Membership Overview

On Feb. 2, Sports Illustrated will launch a digital premium membership for, giving members unlimited access to SI’s unique journalism and storytelling. All readers will be able to sample Sports Illustrated’s award winning content by accessing 5 free premium articles a month at launch. Breaking news, FanNation content and SI Swimsuit photos and stories will not count against that limit and will always be available to all visitors. Through SI’s premium membership -- which will start at $5.99 per month with the first month for $1 -- digital subscribers will have access to:

  • Unlimited access to premium stories, photos, videos and more from the most trusted name in sports
  • In-depth coverage of all major sports Leagues, the biggest events, biggest stories, and biggest teams
  • Early access to Sports Illustrated magazine articles before they reach the newsstand
  • Sports Illustrated's game changing Daily Cover stories delivered daily to members
  • The members-only newsletter featuring behind-the-scenes insight from your favorite SI personalities
  • Exclusive conversations with Sports Illustrated’s famed writers and the biggest names in sports
  • Unlimited access to SI’s 67 year magazine archive in the SI Vault

Breaking news articles at will remain free for all readers. SI will also offer a digital + print membership at $69.99 per year.

This premium membership program is part of SI’s ongoing commitment to providing readers with the highest quality, most in-depth sports journalism and content.

As part of that commitment, SI is investing and expanding its editorial teams to continue delivering premium stories, photos, videos, podcasts, and breaking news that are important to its more than {30 million digital fans and its more than 1.7 million current magazine subscribers. In the past month alone, SI added new talent including:

  • Chris Almeida, staff editor: formerly of The Ringer, will focus on Daily Cover projects and pop culture
  • Howard Beck, senior writer: formerly of Bleacher Report and The New York Times, respected longtime NBA writer and podcaster
  • Kate Fagan, special contributor: former ESPN writer and Around the Horn/Outside the Lines panelist, an NYT best-selling author who will focus on impact features and women’s sports
  • Michael Pina, writer/reporter: respected NBA writer and podcaster, contributed to SI’s Open Floor podcast in past and will now write and podcast for us full time
